Recently, computers have become popular instruments for technological
advancement. People in almost all sectors of economy are applying
computers in one way or another. However, being machines they cannot
perform without being driven. Hence a computer knowledge is inevitable
to almost every human being.
Having this in mind, the University Computing Centre
is organising computer training for the University community and
the rest of the world. It has been observed that, though same courses can be taken by different groups
of people, it is wise to separate these groups and teach them differently.
The following groups have been identified:-
The following groups have been identified:-
-
Secondary School levels ( Form IV and VI).
-
Working (in-service) such as normal level staff e.g. secretaries, normal administrator's etc.
-
Managers and Top level administrators.
-
Technical staff who may need specialized courses and monitoring.
University Students
Similar courses are organized for university students
at reduced prices. However, basing on costs involved in conducting
these courses, there should be a balance between the number of students
attending the course. The computing centre organizes such courses
only if at least ten students demand
the same course.
Tailor Made Short Courses
As per identified groups, it was observed that
regular short courses may not necessarily suit all needs of different
groups. Some groups may need new or modified course contents to suit
their needs. This is mainly intended to create courses that can be
modified to incorporate user reaction and needs. The major advantage
of such courses is that, groups may take advantages of existing environment
to save money as well as getting what is actually needed.
Requests for such courses are done by those groups
either under the guidance of their consultant or the Computing Centre.
